The text looks different in the WMF output. Can this be improved?
Probably. The WMF file
format does not embed fonts, it just references font names. Because of
this,
the WMF file relies on your target application (e.g. Word or Visio) to
have those fonts available. It also expects the font names
to match. Two different applications may define the exact same font with
different names. In this case, you need to create a font
mapping. If this is not done, the closest possible font will be
substituted. >

The
text looks broken-up or
condensed when it comes out of pdf2picture
Try deselecting the “Convert Characters to Strings” option in
the General tab of the Options menu. Doing so will carefully place every
character individually in the generated file. The option is turned on by default
to combine individual characters into words and words into lines during
conversion, so that the results are easier to edit and smaller in file
size.
I don't want to worry about fonts and I need a perfect match for printing - What can I do?
If you do not need to edit the text, and print quality is your
primary consideration, you can also choose to outline most fonts to
vector curves during conversion. You can this by checking the “Convert
Characters to Curves” option in the General tab of the Options menu.
pdf2picture will then render every character as a graphical object in the WMF file, using the font information stored in the PDF. If a font was
not embedded in the PDF, pdf2picture will refer to the /fonts/ directory
in the pdf2picture installation folder. You can add Type 1 or TrueType
font to this folder as needed. To outline only specific fonts during conversion, email
support@pdf2picture.com for instructions. Anther option is to try
pdf2image which creates a WYSIWYG
snapshot of the file in three popular web and publishing formats.
I don't need to edit the
file. Is pdf2picture
right for me?
It may be. If the results are satisfactory, you have generated a
scalable, high-quality vector graphic as a match. If you
cannot get accurate results using the tips in the FAQ and if
you don’t need to edit the content, you might be better served by
pdf2image. It converts PDF into JPEG, GIF and PNG image formats at
user-defined dpi resolutions. It produces an exact
high-quality representation of the PDF original. It applies
sophisticated anti-aliasing during conversion, to produce smooth results
even at lower resolutions. We would be happy to advise you on which
program to
choose - just send a sample PDF file to
us at
testfile@pdf2picture.com. One of our experts will then send you the
best possible WMF results, or recommend another solution if needed. >

Why can’t I edit the text in my Office application?
If you can only select characters as graphical objects, chances are that the
text was already stored as graphics in the PDF original. It was no
longer text, just vector curves that look like text. This often happens
for example with PDF drawings created from a CAD, EDA or GIS
applications, or print advertisements from a DTP-package. Text
is converted to curves to ensure WYSIWYG print results and to protect
against font incompatibilities. Once the
text has been turned into curves, there is no way for pdf2picture to
bring it back as real text in the WMF file. If however the text is still
‘live’ in the PDF file, pdf2picture can in most cases reproduce
it as editable text in the WMF output.
I've converted my file but I can
not ungroup and edit it - why not?
If you cannot select any individual element after importing and
ungrouping the WMF in your Office application, chances are that the
whole page was stored as a raster image in the PDF file. In that case,
it will also be ‘just’ a raster image in the WMF output. |
